The short answer

Fomo Family is a legitimate product from a real, well-funded company. Fomo Labs Inc. was founded by three former dYdX engineers, has raised about $94M from Benchmark, Index Ventures and Union Square Ventures, publishes terms of service and a fee policy, ships regular product updates and has apps in both official stores under its own name. None of that is typical of a scam.

Legitimate is not the same as safe. The tokens traded on Fomo are mostly meme coins that can lose most of their value in hours, the app is built to make trading fast and social, and scammers actively impersonate it. Whether Fomo is safe for you depends on how you use it.

What the evidence supports

  • Real company, real people. Paul Erlanger, Se Yong Park and Prashan Dharmasena are named founders with public profiles and press coverage from Fortune and others. See company.
  • Institutional funding. A $17M Series A led by Benchmark (November 2025) and a $75M Series B led by Index Ventures (June 2026) at a $550M valuation. Venture funds conduct legal and financial due diligence before investing at this scale.
  • Official app store listings under Fomo Labs Inc. on the App Store and Google Play, with a public changelog on the fomo.family blog going back to early 2025.
  • Published terms and fee policy. The terms describe how fees are calculated and state that the fee is shown before you confirm. Scams avoid specific, checkable commitments.
  • Recognised integrations. Coinbase (Apple Pay onramp), TradingView (charts), Hyperliquid (perps) and Awaken (tax) are real partners who would not integrate with a fraudulent app.

How custody works

Fomo creates a non-custodial wallet for you at sign-up using embedded-wallet infrastructure (Privy). Your keys are generated on your device and protected by your login and biometrics; Fomo Labs does not hold customer funds in a pooled account the way a centralised exchange does. This has two consequences:

  1. A company failure would not in itself lock your funds, because the wallet is yours.
  2. Account security is your responsibility. A phished login or a compromised phone can drain the wallet, and there is no chargeback.

See our guide on exporting your private key for how to back up access.

What we could not verify

  • Regulatory status. Fomo does not claim to be a registered broker-dealer, money transmitter or exchange in the jurisdictions we checked. Perps are provided through third-party protocols. Do not assume any investor protection scheme applies.
  • Insurance. No insurance or compensation scheme is documented.
  • Headquarters and staff numbers. Beyond being a US company, we have not verified an office address.
  • Permanence of the referral discount. Terms can change.

What Reddit says

Threads about the Fomo app on Reddit are mixed in the way you would expect for a meme coin platform:

  • Positive: fast onboarding, cross-chain buying without bridging, seeing what strong traders are doing, quick withdrawals to external wallets.
  • Negative: fees that feel high on small trades, "failed to buy" or "failed to sell" errors on illiquid tokens, occasional withdrawal verification holds, and losses from copying leaderboard traders too late.
  • Scam reports on Reddit almost always trace back to fake apps, fake "support" DMs or lookalike sites rather than the official product.

What Trustpilot says

The Trustpilot page for fomo.family has only a handful of reviews, mostly negative, which is too small a sample to be meaningful. Trading apps typically attract reviews from users who lost money on the underlying asset rather than on the app. Use it as one signal among many, not as a verdict. You can read them at Trustpilot.

Separate the three kinds of risk

Risk What it is Fomo's role
Market risk Tokens fall in value, sometimes to zero Fomo provides access; it does not vet tokens
Behavioural risk Overtrading driven by alerts, feeds and leaderboards Fomo's design increases this risk
Operational risk Phishing, fake apps, lost device, bugs, outages Partly Fomo's, partly yours

Impersonation is the practical threat

Because "fomo" is a common word, lookalike domains and fake apps are everywhere. Protect yourself:

  • Only install from the official links.
  • Fomo support will never DM you first on Discord, X or Telegram and will never ask for a seed phrase or password.
  • Bookmark fomo.family; do not click ads or search results for "fomo login".
  • Turn on biometric lock and, where available, two-factor authentication.
  • Test every new withdrawal address with a small amount.

How to judge it yourself

  1. Read the current terms at fomo.family/terms, especially the fee and wallet sections.
  2. Deposit a small amount, make one trade, and withdraw to a wallet you control. Check that the fee matches the confirmation screen and the withdrawal arrives.
  3. Look at a leaderboard trader's full history, not just their best week.
  4. Decide in advance how much you can lose entirely.

Frequently asked questions

Is Fomo Family a scam?

No. It is an openly operated app from a venture-backed company with named founders. Scams surrounding it are impersonations of the official product.

Is the Fomo app safe to use?

The app itself is well built and non-custodial. The assets are high risk and phishing is common. It is as safe as your own security habits and your position sizing.

Is Fomo Family regulated?

We have not verified any broker, exchange or money-transmitter licence. Treat it as an unregulated crypto product with no investor protection.

Is Fomo Family legit according to Reddit?

Most Reddit users treat the app as real; complaints centre on fees, failed trades on illiquid tokens and the risk of meme coins rather than on fraud.

Can I lose money on Fomo?

Yes. Crypto trading involves substantial risk and you may lose some or all of the funds you trade.
