Fomo App in Canada: Availability, Funding & CRA Tax: cover image for the FomoFamilyApp.com guide

Canadian traders ask two things about the Fomo app: does it work here, and how do I get Canadian dollars in and out? The short answers are yes, according to user reports and our checks on September 20, 2026, and through a Canadian exchange, because Fomo has no CAD deposit or withdrawal. This guide covers both, plus what the Canada Revenue Agency expects from an active trader.

Does the Fomo app work in Canada?

  • iOS and Android. Canadian users generally report that the app appears in the Canadian App Store and Google Play. Fomo Labs controls store availability by country and can change it without notice, so search your own store to confirm.
  • Web app. fomo.family works in a desktop or mobile browser and has the same feed, trading and portfolio. See Fomo Family desktop.
  • Features. Spot trading across the six supported chains works the same as elsewhere. Access to perps can be restricted by region under the venue's terms; check in the app before you plan around it.

If the listing is missing, use the web app. Do not change your Apple ID region, use a VPN or install an APK from a third-party site. Country detail for other regions is on Fomo app UAE.

Using the app is not illegal. Fomo Labs is a US company and, as far as we can verify, is not registered with Canadian securities regulators as a crypto trading platform or with FINTRAC as a money services business. That means:

  • No Canadian Investor Protection Fund coverage and no provincial regulator to complain to.
  • The rules that registered Canadian platforms follow, such as limits on certain stablecoins and leverage, are not applied for you.
  • Your protection is the non-custodial wallet design and your own security habits.

What is and is not verified about the company is set out in Fomo Family trustpilot.

Funding from Canada

Flow diagram for Canadian users of the Fomo app: fund a Canadian exchange in Canadian dollars by Interac e-Transfer, buy USDC or SOL, withdraw on Solana or Base to the Fomo deposit address, trade in Fomo, sell back to USDC and withdraw to the exchange, then sell for Canadian dollars and withdraw to a bank.
Funding and cashing out from Canada using a Canadian exchange at both ends.

Apple Pay via the Coinbase onramp. This depends on Coinbase's support for your card in Canada, and several Canadian banks block or treat crypto card purchases as cash advances. If it works, expect an onramp fee of a few percent. See how to deposit on Fomo app.

Crypto transfer, the reliable route:

  1. Open an account on a registered Canadian platform such as Kraken, Coinbase Canada, Newton or NDAX and fund it in CAD by Interac e-Transfer.
  2. Buy USDC or SOL. Check first that the platform lets you withdraw that asset on the Solana or Base network; some Canadian platforms limit which coins and networks can leave. Shakepay, for example, is built around Bitcoin and Ethereum.
  3. Copy your deposit address from Fomo, choose the matching network on the exchange and send a small test amount.
  4. Send the rest once the test arrives. Solana and Base deposits usually show within a minute.

Step-by-step screens are in Fomo app withdrawal.

Cashing out to a Canadian bank

  1. Sell the token for USDC inside Fomo.
  2. Withdraw USDC to your Canadian exchange's deposit address, on the same network the exchange shows.
  3. Sell USDC for CAD on the exchange.
  4. Withdraw by Interac e-Transfer or bank transfer.

Expect a trading fee in Fomo, a network fee on the transfer, an exchange spread or fee on the CAD sale, and sometimes a withdrawal fee. Below roughly $30 it is often not worth cashing out. Canadian banks occasionally hold incoming transfers from crypto platforms; keeping the exchange's transaction records resolves most questions.

CRA tax basics

The CRA treats cryptocurrency as a commodity, and disposing of it is a taxable event. For Fomo users that includes:

  • selling a token for USDC or another token,
  • swapping one token for another,
  • closing a perps position,
  • spending or gifting crypto.

Moving crypto between your own wallets is not a disposition, but keep records showing both addresses are yours.

Capital gains or business income. This is the question that matters most for active traders. If your trading is occasional investing, half of a capital gain is included in your income and capital losses can offset capital gains. If the CRA views your activity as a business, which it may where trading is frequent, organised and carried on for profit, the full amount is taxable as business income and losses are deductible in full. There is no fixed trade count; the CRA looks at frequency, holding period, time spent and intent. Dozens of meme coin trades a week point toward business income.

Other points:

  • Cost is tracked using the adjusted cost base, averaged across all units of the same token.
  • The superficial loss rule can deny a capital loss if you rebuy the same token within 30 days before or after the sale.
  • Holding crypto on a foreign platform can count toward the $100,000 threshold for form T1135. How a non-custodial wallet is treated is not settled; ask an accountant if your balances are large.
  • Records must be kept for six years.

Fomo's Awaken integration and wallet-address imports into Koinly or CoinTracker produce the disposal list you need. More in Fomo app tax. This is general information, not tax advice.

Safety for Canadian users

Impersonation is the practical risk: fake "Fomo Canada support" accounts, recovery services that contact you after a loss, and messages claiming to be from the CRA demanding payment in crypto. Fomo has no phone line and no Canadian office, and the CRA does not accept cryptocurrency. See fake Fomo app scams.
