Apple Pay is the fastest way to fund the Fomo Family app if you do not already hold crypto. It has been available since January 2026 through the Coinbase onramp, which means Coinbase, not Fomo, handles the card payment and delivers crypto into your Fomo wallet. This guide walks through the process, the costs, and the reasons it sometimes fails.

What happens behind the scenes

When you tap Apple Pay inside Fomo, three parties are involved:

  1. Apple Pay authorises the card stored in your Wallet.
  2. Coinbase Onramp takes the payment, converts it to crypto (usually USDC) and sends it on-chain to your Fomo wallet address.
  3. Fomo shows the balance once the transfer confirms.

Because the purchase runs through Coinbase, Coinbase's country list, card rules and identity checks apply. Fomo does not see your card details.

Requirements

  • An iPhone with Apple Pay set up and a debit or credit card that allows crypto purchases. Many banks block crypto on credit cards; debit cards succeed more often.
  • The Fomo Family app installed from the App Store. See download.
  • A region where the Coinbase onramp operates. The United States is fully covered; other countries vary. See country availability.
  • For your first purchase, be ready to complete a short identity check in the Coinbase flow.

Step by step

  1. Open the Fomo app and tap your balance, then Deposit.
  2. Choose Apple Pay (it may be labelled "Buy with Apple Pay" or "Card").
  3. Enter the amount in dollars. Start with a small amount the first time, for example $20.
  4. Review the quote. The screen shows the crypto you will receive after the onramp and card fees.
  5. Confirm with Face ID or Touch ID.
  6. If this is your first purchase, Coinbase may ask you to verify your identity or confirm your region. Complete it inside the flow.
  7. Wait. The crypto usually arrives in your Fomo balance within one to five minutes.

You will receive an email from Coinbase with the receipt. Keep it for tax records; see Fomo app taxes.

Fees on Apple Pay deposits

Apple Pay deposits carry costs that crypto deposits do not:

Cost Who charges it Typical range
Onramp fee Coinbase Around 2% to 4% of the purchase, shown before you confirm
Card network fee Your card issuer Usually none for debit; credit cards may treat it as a cash advance
Network fee The blockchain Cents on Solana or Base
Fomo fee Fomo Labs None for deposits

The referral discount does not apply to onramp or card fees; it applies only to Fomo's trading fee. See fees for how those work.

For amounts above a few hundred dollars, sending USDC from an exchange is usually cheaper than Apple Pay.

Limits

Coinbase sets daily and weekly purchase limits that depend on your verification level and region. New users typically see a low limit for the first days. Fomo does not add a limit of its own. If you need to deposit more, split the purchase across days or use a crypto transfer.

Apple Pay not working: what to check

  • Card declined: the issuer blocks crypto. Try a different card, ideally debit.
  • Region not supported: the onramp is not available where your Apple ID or card is registered. Deposit crypto instead.
  • Verification loop: Coinbase could not confirm your identity. Finish the check in the Coinbase email, or use a different funding route.
  • Payment taken but no balance: check the Coinbase receipt email for the transaction hash and confirm on the chain explorer. If it is confirmed on-chain but not showing after 30 minutes, contact in-app support with the hash. See support.
  • Onramp degraded: Coinbase's onramp has occasional outages. Wait an hour and try again.

Alternatives to Apple Pay

  • Crypto transfer: buy USDC on any exchange and send it on Solana or Base to your Fomo deposit address. Lowest fees, works everywhere the app works.
  • Google Pay: not documented as a deposit method in Fomo as of our last check.
  • Cash App, PayPal, bank transfer: not supported directly. Cash App users can send Bitcoin to an exchange, convert to USDC and deposit that.

A note on risk

Money deposited into Fomo is used to buy volatile tokens. The convenience of Apple Pay makes it easy to top up impulsively. Decide your monthly limit before you start and treat every deposit as money you can afford to lose.
