How to Spot Fake Fomo Apps, Phishing Sites and Support Scams

Fomo is a real app from a well-funded company, but its name is a common word and its users hold crypto in non-custodial wallets, which makes it a favourite target for impersonation. Almost every "Fomo scam" report we have seen involves a fake, not the official product. Here is how each scam works and how to check.

Scam 1: Fake APKs and "PC downloads"

Sites offering "fomo family apk download", "fomo app for Windows" or "fomo mod apk" repackage the app with code that captures your login or replaces withdrawal addresses. Fomo distributes Android builds only through Google Play and has no desktop installer. Check: is the source Google Play or fomo.family? If not, close it.

Scam 2: Lookalike login sites

Ads and search results for "fomo login", "fomo family sign in" or "fomo web app" lead to domains such as fomo-family.app, fomofamily-login.com or fomo.family.something.xyz. They copy the real login page and steal credentials or prompt a wallet signature. Check: the address bar must read fomo.family exactly, before the first slash. Use a bookmark.

Scam 3: Fake support and phone numbers

There is no Fomo phone number. "Fomo customer service" numbers in search results, and "support agents" on Discord, X, Telegram or WhatsApp who message you first, are scams. They ask for a seed phrase, a private key, a one-time code, remote access to your phone, or a "verification deposit". Check: did you start the conversation inside the official app? If not, it is not support. See support.

Scam 4: Airdrop and token drainers

"Fomo Family token airdrop", "FOMO points claim" and similar pages ask you to connect a wallet and sign. The signature grants token approvals that drain the wallet. Fomo has no token and no airdrop. Check: fomo.family/blog and @fomo on X; if there is no announcement there, it is fake. See token and airdrop.

Scam 5: Telegram signal and copy-trading groups

Groups named "Fomo official signals", "Fomo insiders" or "Fomo VIP" sell access to pumps, then dump the tokens on members. Some ask you to install a "Fomo bot" that needs your credentials. Fomo has no official Telegram. Check: the official community page lists Discord and X only.

Scam 6: Recovery services

After a loss, "recovery experts" appear in replies and DMs promising to retrieve funds for a fee or with your private key. On-chain transfers cannot be reversed; anyone who says otherwise is stealing again. Check: no legitimate service can recover a completed on-chain transaction.

Scam 7: Fake affiliate and job offers

"Fomo listing manager", "Fomo partnership team" and "Fomo recruiter" accounts pitch paid listings, partnerships or jobs and ask for a deposit or personal documents. Affiliates apply at fomo.family/affiliates; jobs are at jobs.ashbyhq.com/fomo-labs. See company and careers.

A five-second checklist

1. Did I navigate here myself, or did a link bring me?
2. Is the domain exactly fomo.family, apps.apple.com or play.google.com?
3. Am I being asked for a seed phrase, private key, code or payment?
4. Did this person contact me first?
5. Is there urgency ("24 hours", "account will be locked")?

Any yes to 3, 4 or 5, or no to 1 or 2, means stop.

If you have been scammed

• Move any remaining funds to a new wallet immediately.
• Revoke token approvals with a tool such as revoke.cash.
• Change the password and enable two-factor on the email or account used for Fomo login.
• Report the account or site to the platform, in the official Discord, and to your national fraud reporting service.
• Do not pay anyone who offers recovery.
